Mother Angelica: Pain and Redemption
Mother Angelica: Pain and Redemption
Christ suffered to give you an example, not to take it away. We don't understand the power of Redemption. Before Redemption, man prayed to get rid of pain, and after, he prayed to endure it with joy. How much greater that is. Before Redemption, we needed God to answer all our prayers to prove He blessed us, but after Redemption, we look upon the Cross and know that when He puts it up on this shoulder, He has looked upon us as sons!

Oh Chrisarina! Thanks for the post. Just yesterday I was spending time with my mentor and wrestling with the spiritual call to suffering that some of us seem to have, as presented here in Colossians...
Colossians 1:24-25—"I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is
lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is
the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God"
It seems that God trusts some of us with much suffering. And the very question I posed to my mentor was "Could it be that the point isn't to pray for it to be over and done with, but to pray for the ability to embrace it and identify with Jesus and find joy there?" I'm so sorry, sister, for your pain. I'm so grateful that "on the other side" you will be healed, and get to experience the joy of that as well as the fruit of your sufferings in this life, whatever God means for that to be!
love to you in Jesus!

@sharonini1 - Sharonini! Buona Sera! I'm so glad the post blessed you as it blesses me. I increasingly find my peace and joy in trying to respond to God's loving grace to embrace my cross for love of Him. After so many years of huffing and puffing and getting all kinda hysterical about trying to "get healed", I am at more peace now accepting God's healing for me and for others through suffering in union with Jesus. I still struggle. (Today was a heckuva day!!!) but I feel peaceful about trying to embrace my crosses with joy instead of seeking what the world and the flesh insist is prosperity. What a blessing it is to be broken with Jesus, yes? And He gives us consolations with which to console others! God is so good! I am praying for you, Bambina, my Italian "sorella" in Jesus! Thank you for staying in touch and for being you. Thank you for saying "YES!" so generously to God's call on your life. Much love in Him to you, and a holy hug as well! :)
@LifeIsAPolka - Hugs back to you, la mia sorella! Thanks for the words of love and encouragement here and in the Jacquie Lawson card! <3
